Rules & Regulations

Sunset Zoo strives to create a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests as well as the animal collection. We ask that you respect the following rules and regulations:

No Smoking or Vaping

For the health of our guests, staff and animals, Sunset Zoo is a smoke-free environment. Guests wishing to smoke, vape, or use an e-cigarette are asked to go in the zoo parking lot 20 feet from the zoo's ticket booth. Per Riley County ordinance smoking is prohibited within a reasonable distance of 20 feet outside of an entrance to an enclose area where smoking is prohibited Sec. 17-24. Prohibited Items

For the health and safety of our guests, staff and animals residents Sunset Zoo the following items are prohibited: Bicycles, tricycles, unicycles (or anything with pedals used for propulsion), scooters, electric scooters, roller skates, inline skates, roller blades, shoes with built-in skates, kid ride-on vehicle (gas or electric powered cars, trucks, ATVs, quads, karts, dirt bikes, motorcycles), remote controlled toys or vehicles, sports equipment, balloons, confetti, radio/music devices, glass containers, hoverboards, wave boards, remote controlled toys/vehicles, drones, pets, grills and alcohol.

Any guest found with prohibited items will be asked to remove items immediately from the zoo or asked to leave the zoo.

Pets

No pets, emotional-support animals, or companion animals. Service animals are permitted.

Do Not Feed the Animals

Feeding animals is prohibited. Zoo animals are provided high quality, well-balanced diets and outside food can cause severe illness.

Respect the Animals

Do not make loud sounds, bang on windows, throw objects into exhibits, harass, taunt, or tease the animals.

Stay On Paved, Public Pathways

Pathways, guardrails, fences, and barriers must be respected at all times for the safety of both the guests and the animals. Placing children on or over exhibit handrails or fencing is not prohibited and creates a safety hazard for the child, guests, and animals themselves.

Shirt & Shoes Required At All Times

Sunset Zoo is a family-friendly environment. Offensive or proactive items on clothing or is prohibited. All zoo guests must wear a shirt, bottoms, and shoes at all times for safety reasons.

Photography at the Park

During your visit, guests are welcome to photograph the Zoo and the animal residents for personal use. If you are using Sunset Zoo images for commercial purposes, please email Heather Brown.

While visiting Sunset Zoo, you may be photographed or filmed by a City of Manhattan employee, Sunset Zoo hired professional photographer, or City of Manhattan hired contractor. Your admission or entry to Sunset Zoo serves as your permission for use of your image by Sunset Zoo, the Parks and Recreation Department, and City of Manhattan.

Any guest found in violation of the rules and regulations will be asked to leave the Zoo immediately. Contact Zoo staff if you have concerns with other guests during your visit by calling Guest Services at 785-587-2737.
