The T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter welcomes volunteers as an integral part of our team! We really depend on our volunteers to help us keep our animals happy and healthy! Volunteers work on socializing the animals, getting them the daily exercise they need, brushing and bathing them, working on basic training, and doing visitations with the public.
Our volunteers help out with many other tasks that improve the quality of life of the animals in our care. In addition to these tasks, volunteers have an opportunity to advocate for the animals, educate the public, and promote adoption. If you love animals and want to get involved in your community in a meaningful way, please consider joining our team and making a difference! Learn the requirements for becoming a volunteer (PDF). For more information, or if you have questions, contact the Animal Shelter at 785-748-1268 or email us and we will get back to you.
Your application must be submitted, a background check must be completed and turned in, and fees must be paid prior to attending the first training class. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and must pass the background check. Please complete the Volunteer Application and Background Check (PDF) if you would like to be placed on the list for the next set of classes.
