Music & Performing Arts
Open to students enrolled in grades 4-8.
The MPRD Youth Choir rehearses weekly to prepare for two performances during the semester. Fun and exciting musical literature will include folk songs, world music, art music and a mix of other styles. Rehearsal will include time to prepare our music and learn fundamental music reading skills. No musical background is necessary.

Register for Youth Choir
Dance classes are for beginning students and use basic dance steps and choreography to introduce students to fundamentals of dance. You may enroll in more than one class. Classes are a maximum of 15 students and minimum of 4 students and take place at the City Park Roundhouse.
|Pre-Ballet||Ages 3-4||Ballet classes are the basis for all dance training and help children develop and improve their poise, flexibility, grace, self-discipline and posture. Students will be introduced to basic beginning ballet techniques and vocabulary in this fun class.
|Beginning Hip Hop||Ages 5-8||This class introduces students to the basic concepts of hip hop dance and culture in a fast-paced, high-energy setting. Learn hip hop technique and choreography in this exciting class.
|Dance Squad||Ages 5-8||Dance squad incorporates various dance styles (i.e. hip hop, jazz and contemporary), with basic tumbling and pompom/cheer. Pompoms will be provided by MPRD.
|Beginning Ballet||Ages 5-8||Beginning ballet emphasizes technique, barre work and choreography, as well as the ballet vocabulary that is used throughout all other dance genres. Students in this class will develop and improve their poise, flexibility, grace, self-discipline and posture.
|Beginning Tap||Ages 5-8||Tap is a form of dance that uses the tap shoes striking the floor to make percussive sound. This class will explore both Jazz and Broadway-style tap. Be prepared for a workout as we explore rhythm and build strength!

Students will be instructed on proper attire at their first class meeting. Students in Beginning Ballet will wear ballet slippers. Students in Pre-Ballet may wear ballet slippers or socks. Tap students will need to wear tap shoes. All other students should wear tennis shoes and socks to their first class session.
Our Summer Theatre program provides a performance opportunity for school-aged youth who have an interest in dramatic arts. The productions provide students with creative and engaging theatrical experiences, as well as the opportunity to participate in live performances. Your young person must be the appropriate age by the first day of the program in order to participate.
